Midlands Technical College science professor Dr. Tom Reeves has been awarded the Governor’s Award for Excellence in Science.

The Board of Commissioners of the SC Arts Commission’s 2005 recipients of the Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Awards are Government, Richland County Public Library ; Arts in Education, Deborah S. Hoffman ; and Business/Foundation, Time Warner Cable.

The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded free copies of 15 classic books from the We the People Bookshelf, with four also offered in Spanish, to schools and libraries throughout the country, including 17 in SC. The theme of this year’s bookshelf is freedom. Ridge View High School Library Information Center and Glenforest School were the Columbia recipients. As a part of the award, the libraries will hold programs to raise awareness of these classic books and engage young readers.

Vicki H. Meritt of Moore Kirkland & Benson L.L.P. has completed all the requirements and has passed the SAP Business One Certification Examination

The SC State Guard Foundation’s The Medal of Honor: A Commemoration of SC Recipients , was recognized as one of the ten most notable SC State Government Documents of 2004. The book was edited by Captain Caroline Watson and designed by Chief Warrant Officer Two Dan Davis, both members of the SC State Guard.

The Attorney General’s Pro Bono Domestic Violence Prosecution Program was recognized as one of the nation’s “most creative, forward thinking, results-driven government programs at the federal, state, county and city levels” by Harvard and the Council for Excellence In Government. This program is now eligible to win one of six $100,000 grants.

Marsha Davis , a brokerage associate with Colliers Keenan, Inc., was recognized at the International Southeast Regional Conference held at Miami’s South Beach. Davis received the prestigious award for generating the Largest Office Multi–city Assignment in the Southeast USA Region.

Dr. Vijaya Korrapati , Lutheran Hospice medical director, received her certification from American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine.

Mary Grimball , formerly Director of for the College of Engineering at USC, has been named president of Junior Achievement of Central SC.

Dale Stigamier has joined Miller–Valentine Group’s office as a developer.

Jerry Hudgins and Claudia Benitez–Nelson , two USC Professors Among Top in the Nation have been nominated for the National Society of Collegiate Scholars Faculty of the Year award.

Governor Mark Sanford has appointed Jean Bridges of West Columbia, Lynn Knipher of Camden, and Margaret Brackett of Newberry to the SC Advisory Council on Aging.

Hampton Inn , the national brand of mid–priced Hampton Inn and Hampton Inn Suites hotels, has named the Hampton Inn Harbison I-26 one of its national Circle of Excellence Award winners.

Robert W. Schaller has been named to the position of director of Communications for ETV.

Army Reserve Capt. Robert H. Clapper will be presented the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award by General Peter J. Schoomaker, chief of staff of the Arny, and the Honorable Francis J. Harvey, secretary of the Army, at the Pentagon, Washington, DC, on May 25.

Amy Farris has joined the Boudreaux Group as interior designer. Lynne Robinson has joined the Boudreaux Group as director of finance.

Dr. Lynne S. Noble , Columbia College associate professor of education, is one of only 23 early childhood education leaders from around the country selected to participate in the new Supporting Teachers, Strengthening Families National Leadership Program created for the Education of Young Children.
