Garden club hosts Ikebana demonstration
The time–honored Eastern approach to arranging floral and other natural materials, known as Ikebana, will be demonstrated Wednesday, March 16, beginning at noon at the Garden Club Council Center.
The Garden Club Council invites the public for both the demonstration and also for a Japanese tea that will follow.
Master arrangers will work deftly to exhibit ways to create living works of art simply, using native elements. The event is from 12–3 pm, and there is no cost for attending.
Ikebana, “The Way of the Flower,” signifies early ideas about floral arrangement that traveled to Japan with Chinese monks. Its formalization occurred through many generations of devoted Japanese master artisans. These masters developed progressive new forms from basic principles, and soon schools were set up to pass on the heritage to new generations.
