Dreher and A.C. Flora high schools continued their basketball seasons into the second round of the SC High School League post season. The Lower Richland girls went out quickly.

West Ashley edged the Diamond Hornets 55–51 on February 16 as L.R. ended its season at 16–7. LaNetra Green and Mandy Brown led the scoring for Coach Debbie Stroman’s team. Green had 23 points while Brown posted 10 in the Class AAAA clash.

This past Monday, the Blue Devils of Dreher were eliminated from a chance to make the big show at the Colonial Center on March 5, when the AAA finals will be held. Timberland (23–1), who lost to Dreher in the Lower State the past two seasons sought and got vengeance as they prevailed 7l–67. Tiffany Sumpter’s attempt just seconds before the final buzzer would have tied the game to force an overtime. However, the ball sailed over the basket. Timberland scored again and Coach Teresa Jones’s team ended its season at 24–4.

Keturah Jackson led Dreher with a 23–point performance, while teammate Ashley Morris added 15. Audrey Castor scored 11, and Sumpter notched 10.

A.C. Flora’s bid to make the semi–finals in Class AAA was short of the mark. Clover wrecked Flora’s hopes as Natera Hinton poured in 30 points and Talisha Chandler scored 26 for the Eagles who won 78–52.

The top scorers for Coach Patti Moore’s 17–9 Falcons were Octavia Eubanks with 16, Tiara Knotts with 15, and Laura Lane–Steele who scored11.
