Dr. William Wilson Sr.
COLUMBIA A memorial service for Dr. William Drayton Wilson Sr., 79, was held Saturday, February 5, 2005 at 1 pm at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church Rose Garden. Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, assisted the family.
Dr. Wilson died Thursday, February 3, 2005. Born in Bethune, SC, he was the son of the late Clemson Mayer and Addie Kelley Wilson. He was a graduate of the US Naval Academy and the University of South Carolina, and retired from the US Navy. He taught at Midlands Technical College for 20 years. He was a member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Jane Caroline Rogers Wilson; sons, Dr. William D. Wilson Jr. and David Wilson both of Columbia; daughter, Patricia Ann Wilson of Atlanta, Ga; and one grandson, Christopher Matthew Wilson.
Gail Moyer
COLUMBIA Services for Teresa Gail Saxon Moyer, 56, were held Monday, February 7, 2005 at 3 pm at North Trenholm Baptist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of South Carolina, 2712 Middleburg Dr., Suite 220, Columbia, SC 29204. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, was in charge.
Mrs. Moyer died Thursday, February 3, 2005. Born in Nuremburg, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Lt. Col. Robert and Marjorie Pearl Flowers Saxon. She was a graduate of Dentsville High School, attended Anderson College, and was formerly employed with Lourie’s and Northeast Floral Center. She was a member of North Trenholm Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, K. David Moyer; son, Chris Moyer of Columbia; brother, Lt. Col. Robert Larry Saxon of Tampa, Fla.; and nieces, Cindy Ferrera and Linda Kerr.
David Lee
CHAPIN Service for David Lyle Lee, 84, was held Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at 2 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens. Memorials may be made to Park Street Baptist Church, Columbia.
Mr. Lee, husband of the late Mary Elizabeth Albert Lee, died Saturday, February 5, 2005. Born in Rock Hill, he was a son of the late Arthur Vivian Lee and Jimmie Clendenning Lee. A Navy veteran of WW II, he retired after forty-three years with The State newspaper. He was a member of Park Street Baptist Church, Jamil Temple, Eau Claire Masonic Lodge 344, Scottish Rite and Columbia Typographical Union.
Surviving are daughters, Carol Reynolds of Vero Beach, Fla., Elaine Blanks of Lexington, and Deborah Matney of Chapin; brother, Arthur Vivian Lee Jr. of Columbia; eight grandchildren; and three great–grandchildren.
Bob Bullock
CHAPIN Memorial service for Robert Gamble Bullock, 52, was held Monday, February 7, 2005 at 5 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. Memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, Ballentine.
Mr. Bullock died Friday, February 4, 2005. Born in Warrenton, N.C., he was a son of Frances Daline Gamble Bullock and the late William Joice Bullock.
Surviving are daughters, Ryleigh Elizabeth Bullock, Skylar Frances Bullock, both of Chapin and Jessica Lynn Bullock of Atlanta, Ga.; his mother of Greer; his wife, Katherine Watts Bullock of Chapin; brother, John Charles Bullock of Sumter; and sister, Judith Lynn Bullock Farmer of Greenville.
Bob will be remembered for his entrepreneurial and adventurous spirit and will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Helen Gould

Mrs. Gould, wife of the late Dr. Charles Keith Gould, died Saturday, February 5, 2005. Born in Ft. Mill, she was a daughter of the late R. J. and Daisy Ramey Brown. A graduate of Winthrop College, she taught in the SC public schools. She was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church.
Surviving are daughter, Helen–Keith Smeltz of Middleton, N.J.; granddaughter, Deborah Dumont of Pennington, N.J.; great-grandchildren, Alexander and Paige Dumont; and sister, Margaret Joyner of White Rock.
Ruby Long
OCALA,FLA. Graveside service for Ruby Baldwin Long, 94, formerly of Columbia, S.C., were private in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Mrs. Long, wife of the late Joseph F. Long, died Saturday, February 5, 2005.
Surviving are her son, Joe E. Long of Ocala, Fla; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Bonnie Humphries
COLUMBIA Funeral service for Bonnie Mae Crapps Humphries, 93, of the Lowman Home, was held Friday, February 11, 2005 at 2 pm at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens. Mrs. Humphries died Sunday, February 6, 2005. Born in Columbia, she was a daughter of the late James Thomas and Sarah Meetze Crapps. She was a graduate of Columbia College and was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Surviving are nieces, Nell McCreery of Savannah, Ga. and Virginia Herlong of Chapin; and nephews, George Duncan of Greensboro, N.C. and Gordon Peery of Lexington. She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Austell Humphries, Jr. and by her son, Thomas Michael Humphries.
Mae Johnson
COLUMBIA Mae Martin Johnson, 92, wife of the late Jennings L. Johnson Sr., died Monday, February 7, 2005.
Born in Richland County, she was the youngest daughter of the late Katie Shull and Walter Martin. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her daughter, Vernette Jirel of Columbia; son, J.L. Johnson Jr. of Lexington; grandchildren, Diane Meetze, Glenda Davis, Cheryl Williams, Sandra Backman, Todd Johnson and Larry Johnson; and many great–grandchildren and great–great grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, February 9, 2005 at 2 pm at Rehobeth United Methodist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is in charge.

J. C. Bouknight Jr.

Mr. Bouknight, husband of the late Loree Lindler Bouknight, died Monday, February 7, 2005. Born in Irmo, he was a son of the late John Chalmas and Ellen Meetze Bouknight. He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
Surviving are sons, John, James, and Paul Bouknight all of Irmo, Donald Bouknight of West Columbia, and Douglas Bouknight of Little Mountain; daughter, Barbara Ann Hendrix of Prosperity; brother, Quincy Bouknight; sisters, Martharie Hazelden, Norene Drafts and Norma Evans; 17 grandchildren;25 great-grandchildren; and one great–great–grandchild.
Marie Davenport

Mrs. Davenport, wife of the late Falvius Lee Bradley and Floyd T. Davenport, died Sunday, February 6, 2005. Born in Richland County, she was a daughter of the late M.B. and Kizzie Hornsby. She was a member of Greene Street United Methodist Church. She worked for at Belk Department Store and retired from Ft. Jackson.
Surviving are son, David “Pat” Bradley of West Columbia; daughter–in–law, Betty R. Bradley of Blythewood; step–daughter, Lottie Haselden of Savannah, Ga.; son-in-law, Robert H. Gwin of Florence; and sister, Polly Tims of West Columbia; ten grandchildren and thirteen great–grandchildren.
Burwell Manning COLUMBIA Services for Burwell Deas Manning Jr., 74, were held Sunday, February 6, 2005 at 3 p.m. at Trinity Cathedral, with burial in Brown Chapel AME Church Cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, was in charge.
Mr. Manning died Friday, February 4, 2005. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Burwell Deas Manning and Katharine Heath Manning Perry. He was a graduate of Episcopal High School in Alexandria, Va., attended Texas A&M University, and farmed in the Bluff Road area south of Columbia.
Surviving are his wife, Bee Kalmback Manning; children, Burwell Deas Manning, III, Katharine Zeigler, Meredith Stepp, Lucy Barwick, Lynn Cooper and William Tennent Manning; brother, Chappell Heath Manning; and eight grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the perpetual care fund of Brown Chapel AME Church, Heathwood Hall Episcopal School, Sandhills Academy or Trinity Cathedral.
Trudy Castles
COLUMBIA Memorial services for Irene Hall “Trudy” Castles, 78, will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Family Shelter, 2411 Two Notch Rd., Columbia S.C. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, is assisting the family.
Mrs. Castles died Thursday, February 3, 2005. Born in Cherry Valle, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Howard C. and Anna Belle McCormick Hall. She was first married to Donald Earl Steele, then Robert Smith, and Thomas Castles. As a court reporter, she was associated with Columbia Reporting or Grainger Reporting Service. She specialized in taking testimony for subsequent legal transcription in official hearing for SLED, DHEC, the State Medical Board and others.
Surviving are son, Tony D. Steele of Waterford, N.Y.; sister, Claire Hall Rothenbuhler of Columbus, Ohio; and nieces and nephews.
Frances Hoyle
COLUMBIA Services for Frances “Lou” Hoyle, 70, were held Monday, February 7, 2005, at 2 pm in Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens. Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais Street Chapel, was in charge.
Mrs. Hoyle died Friday, February 4, 2005. Born in Swain County, N.C., she was a daughter of Flora M. Queen Long and the late George M. Long.
Surviving are her husband, Bill Hoyle; sons, Larry Hoyle and his wife, Cheryl, of Lagrange, Ohio, Tony M. Hoyle of Columbia; brothers, Lawson C. Long of Havlock, N.C., Kenneth D. Long and Robert W. Long both of Lexington, N.C.; sister, Betty Jean Suggs of Wilmington, N.C.; grandson, Christopher W. Hoyle and his wife, Melissa; and two great–grandchildren.
