Athletes of the Week
AC Flora Girls – (9–8)
ACF edged past Camden 34–30 led by Laura Lane–Steele (14), Tierra Scott and Octavia Banks (10 each). In the 55–37 win over Eau Claire, the top scorers were Lane–Steele (15) and Knotts (12).
Dreher Boys – (6–12)
Paced by Lawrence Carter (12), Thomas Thunell (11) and DeAngelo Alston (10) the Blue Devils defeated Midland Valley 65–40. Friday, DHS lost to Strom Thurmond 56–52. Curtis Sharp (11) and Alston (10) led Dreher.
Dreher Girls – (16–3)
Winning 69–30 over Midland Valley, Audrey Castor (16), Ashley Morris (14) and Keturah Jackson (12) were Dreher’s top scorers. Jackson (26) was joined by Tiffany Sumpter (15) Audrey Castor , and Ashley Harris (14 each) in an 81–35 victory over Thurmond.
Lower Richland Boys – (16–2)
Mike Jones (19), Jeremiah Richardson (17), Mike Ward (10) led as the Diamond Hornets defeated Irmo 62–36. Friday, L.R. held off Richland Northeast to win 51–48 and gain sole possession of first place in Region 5–AAAA.
Lower Richland Girls – (12–3)
L.R. fell to Irmo 39–27 this past week. Morgan Stroman (10) led L.R. Fannie Goodwin (20), La’Netra Green (19), and Stroman (13) topped L.R.’s scoring in the 66–46 romp past RNE (13–3) Friday.
Cardinal Newman Boys – (13–3)
The Cardinals defeated Hammond 71–47. Brent Zokan (22) and J.P. Nerbun (19) led CN. At Augusta Christian, CN won 53–42. Zokan (17), John Wilson (12) and Nerbun (11) were top contributors.
Cardinal Newman Girls – (13–3)
Casey Andrews (13) and Colby Kuchrarski (10) paced the 48–37 triumph over Hammond. Friday’s 46–35 victory over Augusta Christian was led by Kuchrarski (19) and Emily Teegarden (15).
Hammond School Boys – (8–7)
Only Frank Martin (15) hit double digits for the Skyhawks in the 71–47 loss to Cardinal Newman. Lex Patrick (9) was next. Hammond ended the week by falling 57–53 to Heathwood Hall. Martin (23) and Dantel Bailey (14) were Hammond’s leaders.
Hammond Girls – (12–3)
Sarah Parker Mounce (12) and Margaret Clay (10) were the top scorers for the Lady Skyhawks in the 48–37 loss to Cardinal Newman. Friday’s 50–21 win over Heathwood Hall was led by Clay (19).
Heathwood Hall Boys – (7–8)
JD Whalen (16), David Kirby (11), Brandon Gantt , Rhodes Amaker , and Odist Harmon (10 each) were leaders in the 63–42 win over Ben Lippen. Friday, the new Highlanders’ new basketball arena was the site of its inaugural game. About 1,000 fans saw the Highlanders win 57–53 over Hammond topped by Whalen (23).
Heathwood Hall Girls – (3–7) Ben Lippen’s Lady Falcons won over H.H. 30–19. Hammond won Friday’s encounter 50–21.
