Marriott returns to Main Street
Facade of the Adam’s Mark Hotel
currently under Marriott’s
renovation
There is a shroud hanging from the Main Street roof parapet at what was once a Marriott, then an Adam’s Mark and soon a Marriott again. Probably in another month or so the shroud will drop to reveal the red illuminated letters that spell “Marriott.”
Already inside the hotel are signs with “Marriott” emblazoned across the top. Most are apologies and explanations covering the $10 million renovations.
The 303–room Marriott opened 20 years ago. Several years later it was renovated and expanded as an Adam’s Mark Hotel. The owner of the Adam’s Mark Hotel chain sold all his hotel properties a year ago for a total which did not reveal the individual price of the Columbia hotel.
Outline of
Marriott makeover
The Marriott is sprucing up the banquet facilities. The bar and the restaurant are getting a complete facelift and new configuration. Marriott’s reputation for food and service quality is remembered fondly and welcomed eagerly by the Main Street regulars.
The guest rooms are being thoroughly refurbished, and the hotel is carving 11 new two–bedroom suites out of the upgraded building.
Again, the conversion should be complete in another month, and then the shroud comes down.
