Amber, an amiable senior yellow lab, waits on her front porch on my street, not knowing her people aren’t coming home anymore. They had money problems, split up, and their home is in foreclosure. They already took their blind, elderly black chow to the shelter to be euthanized and were going to take Amber there, too, but the volunteers at Carolina Cats didn’t want Amber euthanized and asked that she be spared until a new home could be found.

Carolina Cats is making sure Amber gets fed. She has been to the vet and is heartworm negative. She is on flea control and has been dewormed. She loves people and craves their company. She also gets along well with other dogs and cats.

Although she is not young, she is able to haul herself over a 36–inch chain link fence primarily so she can find companionship. Amber was given a warm dog bed, blankets, and a snuggle safe heat disc, but the weather is getting awfully cold for an elderly dog. Amber needs a home soon, preferably an indoor home. She will need to be walked when outside. Her adopter will receive two months free pet insurance with adoption.
