Good Manners

By Rachel Haynie

When Columbia artist Carolita Cantrell, now residing in Banner Elk, NC, threw down a short, white glove challenging her friend Sister Wimberly to publish her little book on manners, she accepted the challenge.

With Cantrell’s illustrations as catalysts, the Sumter native took Good Manners to press. The little book, originally written very personally for her own grandchildren, quickly got out of hand and into the clutches of other Sumter–area parents who wanted to impart traditional values to their own offspring,

“The goal,” she said “is to make manners habits, not something you need even think about.”

Wimberly and Cantrell will sign the little book, already inscribed with a verse from Proverbs , at Happy Bookseller Thursday, December 9 at 5 pm.
