Columbia Country Club, 1904 – 2004, celebrated 100 years November 13, 2004. Southern hospitality greeted each guest at the entrance. The balloon- studded ballroom held over 200 invitees of three generations. Wining, dining, and dancing contributed to an evening of reminiscing of the past and dreaming into the future.

“I love Columbia Country Club,” smiles Carol Dupree. Dupree has been a member of the club since its original location in the Eau Claire section. She and her family moved to Blythewood when the club relocated in the ’60s. “We were like pioneers when we first moved out here. Our house is one of the first homes built out in this area. Many people thought the course was too far from Columbia. Times have changed. I absolutely love living out here.”

These members have been with the club since the club relocated in Blythewood in the early ’60s. The centennial presentation reviewed a historical souvenir scrapbook. The loyal staff workers who have had at least 30 years experience were honored with overwhelming recognition for their valuable service to the members and the club.

Golf winners of the CCC Centennial Tournament who played on Saturday morning of the 13th were awarded prizes. One hundred and four players braved windy and cool conditions to help start the centennial celebration. 26 teams competed in the Texas Scramble, and each competitor enjoyed the competition among friends. Flight winners in the combined categories of gross and net scores were First Flight: Ron Bowman, Wayne Warren, Barry Bor, and Sam Schneider; second flight winners: Jim Kiger, Jim Geller, Dan Cisle, and Murray Vincent; Couples Flight Winners: Joda and Ellen Fortson, Steve and Diana Seine.

The dance floor celebrated fancy footwork, dynamic dancing duos, and all party people joined in for line dancing at its best. The celebration lasted into the wee hours of the morning with the younger generation ready to propel their energies into the next 100 years.
