Around the Town
Art TRIENNIAL 2004, will open November 19 at the SC State Museum. TRIENNIAL will feature 10 upstate artists, 10 midlands artists, and nine Lowcountry artists.
Charity Home Works of SC is sponsoring a multi–day blitz, Christmas Break, December 27–30. Teens and adults are needed to make repairs to the homes of the elderly and the disadvantaged in the Greater Columbia Area. No skill level is required. A planning meeting is scheduled December 7 at St. Martin’s–in–the–Fields Episcopal Church. Starting at 6:30 pm, pizza and soda will be served. For information or to help, call 781-4536.
Church First Presbyterian Church continues its Wednesdays at noon lunch service series this week in Jackson Hall at 1324 Marion Street. Lunch begins at 11:45 am, followed by a speaker from 12:25–1 pm. A hot meal is $5 and soup/salad bar is $4. No reservations required.
Handicrafts from artisans in more than 30 developing countries will be on sale at Shandon Presbyterian Church this month. This unique sale is an opportunity to purchase quality crafts at reasonable prices while supporting artisans in third world countries. The two– day event will be November 20, 9 am–2 pm and Sunday, November 21, 9:30 am–1:30 pm.

Family Events Riverbanks Zoo’s the Lights Before Christmas isa dazzling array of more than one million glittering and twinkling lights open to the public November 26–December 30, from 6–9 pm. The department of political science will present a program on Politics and Consumer’s Money at the USC School of Law auditorium November 23. The civic–education program will focus on the importance of the relationship of economics and politics at the national, state, and individual levels. Music The newly–formed Lake Murray Symphony will hold a concert at Airport High School, 1315 Boston Avenue, near Airport Boulevard in West Columbia November 14 at 3:30 pm. The concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted. 788-2379
The 55 voices of the Columbia College Choir and the Hi C’s Show Choir will present a concert entitled Songs on November 29, 7:30 pm, in Cottingham Theatre. The concert will include songs of praise, psalms, an echo song, Mary’s song, songs of the spirit, a prairie woman’s song, and Songs Mein Grossmama Sang.
