Deaths

Melissa White

COLUMBIA

A memorial service for Melissa White, 62, was held Wednesday at 3 pm at Lexington United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.

Miss White died Monday, October 18, 2004. Born in Decatur, Ill., she was the daughter of the late Jack E. White Jr. and Geraldine Hatcher White. She was a career nurse, working most of her years in Florida. She worked the last four years in the Columbia area. She was a voracious reader and an avid woodworker.

Surviving are her brothers, David M. White, John E. White and his wife, Jane, and Mark E. White and his wife, Carol; and nieces, Darcy Young and Erin White.

Joey Kukucka

Funeral Mass for Joseph Ronald “Joey” Kukucka, 17, was celebrated Friday at 11 am at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Final Commendation and Farewell Prayers were in the church cemetery. Visitation was Thursday 2–4 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. The Rosary was recited at 6 pm with visitation until 8 pm at the funeral home.

Joey died Monday, October 18, 2004. Born in Kenmore, N.Y., he was the son of Joe J. Kukucka and Michelle Colyer. He was a student at Dreher High School, Columbia, where he was a member of the wrestling team. He loved sports and motorcycles.

Surviving are his father and step–mother, Gerri Haynes Kukucka of Irmo; his mother of Sumter; sister, Samantha Kukucka of Irmo; grandparents, Ronald and Sylvia Kukucka of Sanborn, N.Y. and Patricia and Dave Neamon of Bristow, Va.; step–grandparents, Jerry and Patricia Haynes of Williamson, W. Va.; nephew, Gage Kukucka of Irmo; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral Mass for Jennifer Pearl “Jenny” Kukucka, 14, was celebrated Friday at 11 am at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. Final Commendation and Farewell Prayers was in the church cemetery. Jenny died Sunday, October 17, 2004. Born in Lewiston, N.Y., she was the daughter of Joe J. Kukucka and Michelle Colyer. She was a student at Dutch Fork Middle School where she was a member of Venturing Crew 312 and enjoyed rock climbing. Surviving are her father and step–mother, Gerri Haynes Kukucka of Irmo; her mother of Sumter; sister, Samantha Kukucka of Irmo; grandparents, Ronald and Sylvia Kukucka of Sanborn, N.Y. and Patricia and Dave Neamon of Bristow, Va.; step–grandparents, Jerry and Patricia Haynes of Williamson, W. Va.; nephew, Gage Kukucka of Irmo; and aunts, uncles and cousins.

James Germany Sr.

EASTOVER

Services for James Jack Germany Sr, 58, were held Friday at 3 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Eastover. Visitation was 6–8 pm Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

Mr. Germany, husband of the late Victoria “Lois” Wilson Germany, died Tuesday, October 19, 2004. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Ed Elliott Germany Sr. and Hattie Young Germany. An avid hunter and fisherman, he was the owner of Germany and Son Wheel Alignment, and was a member of Lower Richland Masonic Lodge #406.

Surviving are his son and daughter–in–law, Jim and Carla Germany of Eastover; brother and sister–in–law, Ed E. and Kay Germany Jr. of Columbia; and four grandchildren, James Germany III, Elliott Germany, Jackson Watts, and Haylee Watts. He was predeceased by a sister, Mary Germany.

Mary Rodgers

Funeral Mass for Mary E. Rodgers, 91, was celebrated Wednesday at 11 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Farewell Prayers and Final Commendation were in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the church. The Rosary was recited Tuesday at 6 pm with visitation until 8 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.

Mrs. Rodgers, wife of the late Earl Woolsey Rodgers, was retired as register of Mesne Conveyance in Richland County. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

Surviving are cousins, sister Kay O’Neil of LeSeur, Minn., Frank O’Neil of Las Vegas, Nev. and Mick O’Neil of Bloomingdale, Ill.; nephew, Stanley B. Wanznis of Joliet, Ill.; and step–daughter, Delores Cathcart of Chattanooga, Tenn.

Sheri Peterson

COLUMBIA

Memorial service for Sheri Oliver Peterson, 47, was held Sunday at 4 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to National Kidney Foundation or American Cancer Society. Visitation was Saturday 6–8 pm at the funeral home.

Mrs. Peterson died Thursday, October 14, 2004. Born in Orange County, Calif., she was a daughter of Viola Edgeworth and the late Keith Wilkerson Oliver. She received a LPN degree from Manhattan Vocational School in Manhattan, Kansas. She was formerly employed with Heartland Nursing Home. Mrs. Peterson was a member of Blaney Baptist Church in Blaney.

Surviving are her husband, James Lenford Peterson; son and daughter–in–law, William and Mary Shoff of Marysville, Kan. and Michael Shoff of Columbia; daughter and son–in–law, Wendy and Mike Harmon of Elgin; her mother of Topeka, Kan.; brothers, Greg Oliver of Topeka, Johnny Weir of Kansas City, Kan. and Jimmy Weir of Topeka; sisters, Lori Van Sickle and Alicia Weir, both of Topeka; and granddaughter, McKenzie Shoff of Marysville. She was predeceased by her stepfather, Kyle Weir.
