Mother’s Day will be a very hard day this year. When my mother died in 1996, I began to ignore the day and hole up in my apartment with movies and a pizza.

Church was out of the question on that Sunday.

I always sent cards to my aunts and special ladies in my life, but other than that I would simply wait for the day to pass.

One recent morning I searched frantically for something to listen to on satellite radio. My usual selections were unacceptable, so I reluctantly punched the button for 60’s tunes. I say reluctantly because the morning DJ has shown a recent affinity for Tommy James and was stretching his Davy Jones tribute to unbearable lengths.

They say girls mature faster than boys. I guess that’s why God gave the male species such hard heads. The thicker skulls keep boys a little safer from bad ideas and offer some reasoning into otherwise unreasonable behavior.
