Tuesday, January 24 was a day full of achievement for Joseph James and the Heathwood Hall Highlanders. Not only did Heathwood Hall defeat Ben Lippen at home, but James became the third player during coach Jeff Whalen’s 14-year coaching tenure to reach 1,000 points, joining Corey Littlejohn and Mac Whalen.

Falcons storm back to down Diamonds

Despite an offensive back and forth match between Lower Richland and A.C. Flora, it was a defensive play by the Falcons that secured the win. A bucket from Kenyon Hilton gave A.C. Flora a 52-51 lead with seconds reamining. Following a time out, Flora’s Rodney Dove Jr. intercepted the Lower Richland inbounds pass and secured the 52-51 home win for the Falcons Friday, February 3.

Spring Valley opened up a 36-29 lead at halftime against Ridge View. The first of a series of games Vikings’ coach Perry Dozier called ‘must-wins’ was unfolding according to plan. But the Ridge View Blazers’ trademark harassing defense bit down on the Spring Valley offense and turned the tide of the game.

It didn’t take long for the RNE boys’ basketball team to prove it was ready for the playoffs, jumping on Blythewood early for a 70-39 home win Friday, February 3, despite playing without senior Travis Hammonds who was out with an ankle injury.

The Cavaliers began senior night with a 26-8 run and led by as many as 24 points by the midway point of the second quarter.

A’ja Wilson narrowly missed a triple double, scoring 28 points, grabbing 25 rebounds, and blocking nine shots to lead the Heathwood Hall Lady Highlanders to a 59- 41 win over the visiting Cardinal Newman Lady Cardinals Friday, February 3. The victory secured the SCISA I-AAA region title for the Lady Highlanders.
